The Ultimate Face-off: Angular vs. React

Join the Mobile Learning Lab on Tuesday November 14th for a battle between JavaScript heavy-weights, Angular and React. Our panel of development experts will conduct a spirited discussion around which is better; when and why.

The panelists will discuss what they believe to be the noticeable differences between the frameworks, benefits and deficits, use-cases that support one framework over the other, community support around each and the impact it has on preferences… just to name a few!

Wondering which is  the better framework to invest your time? Where’s the most growth potential? Our panelists will also provide the audience with recommendations based on their experience in the industry!

Angular vs. React… who will be the last one standing?

MEET THE MODERATOR

Kevin Kelly

Kevin translates things, that the creative guy does so that it doesn’t trip up the backend guys.

With globally-known design shops ad agencies, Fortune 500 company clients, national magazine sites, provincial government bodies, he has over a decade experience of web development. Through either backend technologies and database structures(PHP, ASP, JSP) and front end browser/user agent interpretation languages such as HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript. He is currently on the Humber Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning’s Multimedia Production Program Advisory Committee and confounded #DevTO and M!Tech. No stranger to the Toronto tech scene

Alex Wilmer has a great appreciation for the JavaScript community in Toronto and volunteers with TorontoJS, giving workshops and doing tech talks for various events across the city. He is an instructor at Lighthouse Labs and lead developer at the Ontario Institute for Cancer Research where his focus is primarily front end architecture and data visualization.

MEET THE PANELISTS

1. Alex Wilmer – REACT

2.  Syed Akhtar – REACT

600_465802302

Syed started his web development 12 years ago with vanilla Javascript and PHP. As time went on, he used jQuery, knockout.js and then dabbled with React when it was a largely unknown framework, totally skipping over Angular, which was insanely popular as part of the MEAN stack. The early adoption of React worked well for Syed, as it allowed him to lead several large projects due to his experience with React.

Syed’s passion for React was such that he gave free workshops on React. He firmly believes that React is the right solution for web development, and its ecosystem will make it difficult for another framework to end its domination.

Santiago has worked as a developer and team lead in numerous modern JavaScript projects, most recently at Rangle.io in Toronto. He has worked extensively with both React and the Angular series, in consulting and product development.

He has worked primarily in agile environments, always striving for faster time to market and tight development cycles.

He believes that the partisan lines that have been drawn between the two frameworks are ill-conceived, and that both have a place in the industry. Whether to go Angular or React depends on the project and the team at hand.

3. Santiago Elustondo – Angular
